Breastfeeding Blues
With one hand I give myself a pat on the back… she’s 9 months old and I’ve done great! With the other hand I wipe a tear, because I know I will never do this again.
L.L, is baby girl no. 2 for us. My first daughter I was only able to nurse for 12 weeks, and to be honest… hated it! I was shy of being 21 years old, and felt strapped down even more after a difficult pregnancy. When I discovered I was pregnant with no.2, I was uncertain if I wanted to BF because of the struggles with my oldest, I just simply didn’t have enough milk, and she was up crying all the time… little to my surprise… she was starving, and that took me a while to realize.
With L.L., milk was abundantly available. My breasts were perky, and well I looked HOT! I enjoyed the time to get off of my feet and rest with her, our bellies rubbing against each other and watching her grow. I savored the moments because my husband immediately had a vasectomy after her birth and I to be honest don’t know if I am done…(MAYBE THIS ARTICLE SHOULD BE LABELED VASECTOMY BLUES, lol).
Yes, bottles are easier when looking at the view of I can lay her down and run off to tend to our oldest, do my hair, dishes… blah, blah! But when I;ve spaced a diaper bag, I’ve always had a meal hot and ready for her.. and cheap! I’ve tried all the natural remedies to pick up my milk supply, but to be honest she isn’t interested, and it’s not there. We are holding on strong to nursing only at night, and I enjoy winding down my day with her before bed, but my body is making up my mind for me. I am just three months shy of my goal of one year…
I would recommend to all mothers to give it a shot, you may discover a little more about yourself than you have ever known! I feel more in tune with my baby, I feel like I have given it all I got and that we BF mothers deserve some kind of bumper sticker or something. I have given my all, and will continue to do so in so many ways. I love my little blessings!
