Favorite Go To Outfits
My sister accuses me of having a uniform or a ‘go to’ outfit and I guess that I probably do, especially during the summer. I have a disgustingly large wardrobe yet year round, I always find myself reverting back to the same few items. They are tried and true and look good as well (in my humble opinion and of course this is only on the spit-up free days).
So here it is: Lightweight khaki, brown or black pants, khaki shorts, khaki skirt (I am starting to sound like I am packing for a safari, aren’t I?), white t-shirt, black t-shirt, pink t-shirt and then I have polo shirts in just about every color. I really do have a uniform. Wow! I guess that I do change things up a bit with the shoes. The shoes — I tend to stick to one or two pairs although I have a closet full of shoes. I looked at a few pictures of myself from last year spanning over about three months. In every picture I am wearing a white t-shirt. Yikes! Maybe I will just tell people that is for the sake continuity.
Now don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t meet friends out for dinner dressed in any of the above but this is my uniform. I chauffeur kids, run errands, shop and pretty much do everything else in my ‘go to’ outfit. So I started looking around. There is the mother at the soccer game who is always dressed in tennis skirts. Did she just play? Probably not. So I asked her and she told me that she does play sometimes but definitely not as often as she wears the skirts. I accosted a woman at my son’s school who is always dressed as a runner. Nope, she never gets to run, she said but she wanted to get some use out of the clothes that she had.
A lot of women have uniforms or ‘go to’ outfits, I am not alone. I do so admire those women with multiple children who always manage to look so put together including their little coordinated cherubs. I am simply not one. So for now I will go on with my ‘uniform’ and know that it is OK as long as I do get the chance every few weeks or so to let out my inner fashionista. Maybe I will add a few accessories!
