As you are trying to conceive, you see and hear about many different alternative therapies to help you. Herbs, acupuncture and fertility yoga are a few of the alternatives that couples may discuss and explore to help them on their way, whether they are used in the beginning of the process or in conjunction with more traditional fertility treatments. In previous articles, I have discussed the first two. So, in this article, I will talk about fertility yoga – what is it and what are the benefits.

What is Fertility Yoga?

Fertility yoga is a specific type of yoga that focuses the postures and poses to directly aid the reproductive organs to help you conceive easier. It is designed for men and women. Fertility yoga can also help to reduce your stress while you are trying to conceive, which can be a big factor in delayed pregnancy or unexplained infertility.

Does Fertility Yoga work?

According to a Harvard Medical School study, rates of conception in women who attended fertility retreats, which included regular fertility yoga, with a control group, the women who practiced fertility yoga were twice as likely to get pregnant after a year. The caveat is that the retreat included other elements that may have contributed to the pregnancy rate as well. But, isn’t it worth a try?!

What to remember with Fertility Yoga-

Be open to the possibilities with fertility yoga. It won’t be worth the effort if you don’t think it will help. You will not be committed and willing to put in extra time doing fertility yoga together.

Make sure that you relax with fertility yoga. If you don’t relax, then you will not get the full benefits of fertility yoga. Maybe another relaxation method or treatment would be more effective for you.

Do fertility yoga as a couple. This way both will get the benefits of fertility yoga and it is a way to connect with each other during some of the stresses of trying to conceive.

Where to find Fertility Yoga classes?

Your fertility clinic may have some advice on places to find fertility yoga classes.

Your local yoga studio should have some classes, but if not, should know where to send you.

You can find fertility yoga DVDs online to do at home when you have time together.
