Every year when a birthday rolls around the focus is fixated on this event, more so this year with an impending birthday that is just days away.  It will signal the last year for being in my forties and has more meaning to me than any other birthday.  But there is hope.  Look at these inspiring 40-something celebrities.

Valerie Bertinelli is the same age as me, 48 and now appearing on the cover of People magazine in a bikini.  She is also turning 49 this April, but far ahead of me in the shape department.  It seems you need a bit of everything to stay fit – exercising, healthy eating, working personal trainer and following a diet program.  Valerie is someone I have admired for a long time; she is a regular person like all us other 40-Something Moms.  Her now trim and fit body did not happen overnight.  She has been open for decades on her weight struggles.  The change for Valerie started with Jenny Craig.

Next there is Genie Francis from General Hospital Luke and Laura fame.  Genie is now 47 and started on Medifast back in 2007, the same year Valerie became spokesperson for Jenny Craig.  Genie is another actor who has been forthright for years on her weight issues. This was also covered in People magazine.  Genie hired a trainer to help her weight loss.

Both women wrote blogs to document their weight loss journey, hired trainers and kept their caloric intake at around 1200 a day.  Valerie gave up champagne and Genie did the same with wine.

Another female celeb in the same age bracket who has been in the public eye as many years and turned to another product is Marie Osmond. Marie turned to Nutri System in 2008 and was mentioned in a People magazine article as well.  Marie is the oldest at 49, turning 50 in October.

Each of these women lost over thirty pounds while being in the public eye and under scrutiny.  If they can do it, we can too.  We need to kick it into overdrive to get healthy and in shape before we end our forties.  I have started going back to 24 Hour Fitness three to four times a week.  Next I will be taking Hydroxycut, which does work.  I lost ten pounds when on it a year ago.  We have weight issues due to our age, plus medications have side effects that add inches to your waistline.

Blogging about our struggles to lose 10, 20 or more pounds is helping other women in our age group know they are not alone in this struggle.  I considered Lindora and waiting to see if they open one up in a nearby Rite Aid.  When your waist is over 35 inches there are risks like diabetes to consider.  I want to lose 20 pounds.  Let’s focus on ourselves and beat the bulge.
