Mommys Undies
There is nothing quite like the time your four-year-old brings out your fancy panties… at a party at your house. Oh the unexpected “joys” of motherhood.
Hours before our “Cheap Wine and Pizza Party” I did a bit of picking up. You know what I mean. The kind of “picking up” that involves shoving one’s “unmentionables” into, say, the bin of summer clothes one’s preschooler has been obsessing over. Obsessing. You can feel in your bones where this is headed, yes?
Isn’t it amazing what seems like a good idea when one is in a rush.
My girlfriends, a couple of children and I were sitting contentedly at my kitchen table. We were having a real time. The mommy’s bellies were full of pizza and cheap wine, while the children’s bellies were full of pizza, root beer and push-up pops.
As I was innocently chatting it up with my gal pals, in bounded Lucy. Her voice was a-flame with unmentionable delight… Unbeknownst to me, Lucy had been scavenging her summer-clothes treaure trove of goodness – complete with Mommy’s pretty panties and whatnots. At least they were clean…
I think I was mid-cackle when Lucy charged into the room and squeed through the room…
“Mama!!! Wook!!! I found ooor undies Mama! Look Mama! Look Mama! I found oooor UNDIES AND BWA!!!!”
Yay me.
I am thankful the men were cave-manning it on the porch. Mercies of all tender mercies! That didn’t change the fact that Lucy’s arms were draped in the least of my “leasties.” These were not my grannie panties people. And though my friends have all seen panties before, even my own… The way in which they were paraded around… The “pomp and circumstance” just made it all feel very wrong.
I know. This story has nothing to do with rest and relaxation. It’s just a story. I figured it fit in the “Just for Mom” category because something like this is just something we moms have to suffer through… right? Wait. I’m not the only one who has been embarrassed by her kids… please tell me I’m not alone!
