My Son Has Generalized Anxiety
My youngest son, Nick, worries….alot. He worries about being hurt in a tornado. He worries about missing the school bus.
My husband and I started to notice these worries about the time he went into the first grade. His teacher told us he had trouble paying attention in class. Pretty normal for a six-year-old kid, right?
Well…..then in second grade and third grade he was still having trouble paying attention and getting his work done on time. His teachers and I were exhausted! I had his third grade teacher test him for ADD. The results found he did not have ADD.
At the suggestion of his teacher, Nick started seeing the school social worker. This helped him some. Well, over this past summer Nick seemed to be getting worse. My husband and I found a social worker that Nick could work with one-on-one.
WOW! What a huge difference this has made! He has been seeing her for about two months now and there have been big changes! He seems much more relaxed and more confident.
We are fortunate that we have been able to find a great thrapist for him and we’re not finished yet, however, I would highly recommend this route if you have a child that seems to have anxiety issues. I really believe he is going to have a great school year and I am so proud of him for facing this head on and getting the help he needs!
