New Section for Teen Moms
Teen Parenting: it comes with all the trials and tribulations of parenting alone and adds a few of its own along the way. There are the glares to dodge in the grocery store and on the sidewalk, there are still homework assignments to complete and tests to pass. There are undoubtedly relationships to nurture, and now money to make on top of it all. There is much to learn in a short period of time when one finds herself in the position of becoming a teen mom.
Teen moms are often faced with discrimination, hardship and struggle beyond their wildest dreams. They must go to school, work and be a mother all at the same time. They must rise above the stereotypes thrown at them from every direction, every day. They face isolation from other mothers, fathers, and families. Above all that, they must often overcome limited knowledge with even more limited resources in the face of adversary.
This is why, here at Type-A Mom, we’ve opened an entire section dedicated to teen moms. It is our goal to share with teen mothers of all ages, races, and religions; teen moms who have become such in all ways imaginable. We will share not just our experiences but also tips, tricks, stories and encouragement to make life easier.
In return we hope to hear from real life teen moms; moms who are working hard to make life the best it can be for themselves and their children, moms who are breaking through barriers and who are ready to speak out on this very complicated issue. We will bring you the resources, the information and the empowerment to be your very best. You bring us your voice, your experience, and your support.
Welcome to Teen Motherhood at Type-A Mom. Welcome to a community of support. Welcome to a community of activism.
Diana Prichard is married and the young mother of two daughters, ages 7 and 3. Having experienced teen motherhood first hand she’s found herself impassioned with becoming an activist on the issue. She looks forward to sharing that passion here, but you can also find her other random thoughts and life experiences at her personal blog, Of The Princess and The Pea.
