News Round Up for Parent Bloggers, SOPA Blackout Worked Edition

In the big news for the week, the SOPA legislation has been withdrawn after major internet sites protested (did anyone else check Wikipedia six thousand times on Wednesday, only to say, “Doh!” when it came up black?), Twitter blew up with 2.4 million tweets and President Obama said he wouldn’t support the bill. Expect major revisions before the bill is introduced again… and it will be introduced again.

In other news:

  • Public pre-ks have taken a hit as the recession forced school districts to evaluate their funding priorities.
  • Low-income parents are watering down their infants’ formulas at an alarming rate, according to a new study.
  • Apple rolled out a new e-textbook platform that could change the way schools educate our kids, and that’s both good and bad.
  •  Eastman Kodak filed for Chapter 11 and is hoping to save the company by reinventing itself as a digital printer provider. Unfortunately, equipment manufacturing isn’t a much safer bet than photo production.

And there’s your weekly round-up! Check back in next Friday to see what’s caught our eye.
