News Roundup for Parent Bloggers, Go to College for Free Edition
It’s the first week of the new year, and already the web is hopping!
As someone heavily involved in the manufacturing sector, I’m absolutely giddy over the news from M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). It seems the college has launched an online program accessible to anyone in the world for FREE. Although not a traditional degree program, the new offering will provide a certificate of completion. More importantly, however, the program will provide an interactive, high-quality education platform for those interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), which are critical subjects for the future of manufacturing in our country. And now, I will get off my soap box and get on to the rest of the news!
• An industry expert predicts the end of Best Buy – primarily due to its poor customer service – which is bad for investors but also has implications for those of us who like to play with our gadgets before we buy them.
• Yahoo has a new CEO, and he’s a tech guy. Is innovation the key to turning the giant around?
• The USDA has a warning about acetaminophen dosing guidelines because of a new concentration of medication that is now available.
• Before you start that do-it-yourself home renovation project, the government would like to remind you to be aware of potential lead hazards.
And there’s your weekly round-up! Check back in next Friday to see what’s caught our eye.
