PhotobucketSince babies grow so fast, virtually overnight it seems at times, you need need to be ready with the next size clothing so that you won’t have to dash out to the nearest store to find something, anything, that will fit your now bigger child.

If you’re lucky you’ll have gotten some lovely baby clothes in a large range of sizes as baby gifts. And if you’re even luckier you’ll have generous friends or family members itching to give you all their children’s hand-me-downs.

Now what you have to do is figure out what to do with this bounty. Lucky for you I have a couple baby clothes organization tips and tricks to share.

It’s all too easy to put everything in a heap in the closet and assume that when the time comes you’ll remember what’s in there. Trust me: you won’t remember. Instead, 6 months too late you’ll find that adorable dress that Auntie Mervin sent and you’ll be heartbroken that your baby will never wear it.

The secret to avoiding that tragedy is to be prepared and a tiny bit organized.

Closet Organizers take care of hanging clothes

Closet dividers like the Closet Monkey Dividers or these adorable Cat & Dog Closet Dividers will take the guesswork out of finding clothes hanging in a closet. Instead of having to take everything down to see what adorable outfit will fit your baby today, you’ll know at a glance, what fits, what’s too small, and what’s still a bit big.

Bin Organizers take care of the rest

Big transparent bins with tight fitting lids are also going to be your friend. With a big black marker write label each one with the clothing size that is going to be stored in the box – Newborn, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12, 12-18, 18-24, 2T, etc… As soon as you receive a new item or find something adorable on sale, store it immediately in the appropriate box.

Don’t store the bins out of sight in the garage, you’re going to want them on hand. You’re going to want to keep the “current” box on hand even if you put all of your baby’s clothes in the dresser. As the clothes get outgrown you can put them away in the bin instead of letting them clutter up the dresser drawers.

If you start out with these two organizational tricks under your belt you’re going to spare yourself the monster task of sorting through stacks and stacks of outgrown clothes later on down the road. Take it from someone who’s been down that road, you don’t want to do that. Ever.
