Pictures of Hope is a wonderful, heartfelt resource for NICU Parents. What makes this organization more special is that many of the people involved are former NICU Parents.
This charitable organization of professional photographers from the United States and Canada provide complimentary, documentary-style, photography sessions to babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and their families.
Read on to discover more about this incredible service these generous photographers provide for NICU parents.
Looking back on our time in the NICU, one of my regrets now is that we do not have any photographs of my daughter when she was in the NICU. At the time, I was too afraid to have any photographs taken that might remind us of our harrowing, challenging time in the NICU. This was quite unusual, because we are a family that takes photographs. I do remember telling my mother that if it looked like my daughter wouldn’t make it then we/she could take photographs.
I discovered Pictures of Hope serendipitously following an email alert for NICU’s. I have know about resources for Bereavement Photography for dying babies and have written articles about resources available to grieving NICU parents. I hadn’t know about photography resources for NICU babies and decided that i needed to write an article to help spread the word about their incredible service.
According to their website, “Pictures of Hope is a charitable organization of professional photographers who provide complimentary, documentary-style, photography sessions to babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and their families.”
What makes this organization so special is that many of the photographers providing their services to the Pictures of Hope Foundations were themselves once NICU parents. All of the photographers in the Pictures of Hope in the United States and Canada are dedicated to donating their time to a cause they believe in, and sharing the gift of photography with families in need.
For some reason I could not get past the tubes, the machines and the fact that we were in the NICU be be able to see the love and the beauty that could be captured in NICU photographs. Looking at the amazing gallery of photographs taken by these generous photographers, made me realize that I had been wrong in not taking photographs of my daughter while she was in the NICU.
I am hopeful that many NICU parents will be able to utilize Pictures of Hope services, to bring a bit of hope to an otherwise difficult challenging time and find photographers willing to provide NICU families with “invaluable images you will cherish forever, captured in a sensitive and caring manner.”
