When I’m working and my kids are home, they are constantly asking me if they can help. They want to feel ownership over some of the work that eats up so much of my available time; they want to feel like they can contribute.

I’ve always given them little tasks to help me with, from filling the printer with paper to recycling to “typing” notes for me on their computer. They love it.

They’re starting to reach an age where they want more responsibility and independence, so my husband and I have been thinking about starting a chore board and giving them an allowance each week.

I recently found a site called MyJobChart.com which seems to be the perfect way to fulfill a few needs: give the kids more responsibility, help them feel like they “own” part of the process, give us a way to track daily tasks.

From the website:

“A simple job chart is useful to help parents manage the chores around the house. An online job chart helps parents manage household jobs easily and efficiently. It also adheres to the technologically advanced mindset of many of today’s children.

“Using an innovative job chart that is based on technology, positive feedback, and mutually determined rewards, myjobchart.com helps parents help their children be responsible and develop a good work ethic.

Although my kids are too young to be able to login and view their tasks on their own, we’ve been logging in with the kids to show them what they are responsible for and to let them check off items when they complete them. It’s amazing how excited they get to feed the cats when they know they will be able to get on the computer and mark it as done.

I can see this being a very family-focused tool, especially for families with older kids, for managing and tracking to-dos. Plus, it’s free! Have you used the site? What do you think?
