The BlogHer ’12 Preparation Edition of the Talk of the Parent Blogosphere

There’s no mistaking what the biggest talk of the blogosphere is this week, it’s simple: BlogHer.  The female blogging community’s biggest weekend out is coming back to NYC and there aren’t many blogs anywhere that aren’t buzzing with excitement.

While everyone is talking about the fun parties and what to wear when you’re exploring the expo hall, it’s important not to forget that the biggest reason to attend is for the learning opportunities found there.

If this is your first time in NYC, you could find yourself overwhelmed quite quickly, but don’t despair!  Guerrilla Mom has you covered with her BlogHer ‘12 survival tips, with everything from the correct pronunciation of Houston to tips for handling cabs while in the city.

If this is your first conference, or BlogHer, Andrea from Good Girl Gone Redneck gives you some practical tips for surviving a conference, any conference.   Don’t worried about being unprepared, get yourself and your things ready by checking out Rella bellas tips for attending Blogher.

Even if it’s not your first BlogHer, as, quite possibly, the largest female blog conference it can be easy to feel lost in the crowd, but as Tracy from Sellabit Mum reminds us, there are plenty of places, ways, and people to fit into at BlogHer. Wondering what to wear?  Steph from A Grande Life has a practical solution to your fashion dilemma – shop from your own closet!  You’ve got some great stuff in there, so pull it out, mix it up, and save some cash!

Make some time in your super busy schedule to listen in and take part in the conversation at BlogHer’s HealthMinder mini-conference the day before all of the BlogHer festivities start.  Join Kate from Guavalicious in an important discussion on the state of special needs in our nation and stand with her as she and other amazing blogger speak up for those who can’t.

It can be easy to get wrapped up in all the swag gathering, but as Jen from Little Miss Mocha reminds us, there is so much more to attending a conference than just the “free stuff.”  The connections with your fellow bloggers and the information you have the opportunity to intake is worth so much more than any amount of product you’ll be able to fly home. Along those same lines, let’s talk about the people who take swag to an extreme – the very aptly named, swag hag. Are you one?  How do you know?  The ladies from Girls’ Lunch Out remind us that no one likes a swag hag

And I’d like to remind you that it looks even worse to the brands you want to impress when you’re hoarding and being greedy. Most importantly, have fun and learn! What did I miss? Be sure to share a link to your post from this week in the linky below. The only requirements are:

  • You should be a parent who blogs
  • The post must have been published between July 20 to 27, 2012

As Chief Blogging Mama at High Impact Mom, Amanda encounters all sorts of madness as she publishes High Impact Mom, corrals two busy daughters, manages a successful hyper-local digital marketing company, attends college full-time, and occasionally even finds time for a date with her husband. Amanda is a social media addict, a compulsive volunteer, and a hard rocking-Jane Austen reading devoted mama...she might also a little bit crazy. Follow her on Twitter at @highimpactmom.
