I think change is good sometimes, especially for business. However, I also believe you can overdo it by doing too much at once. Facebook did this today. I have seen people complaining who I never see complain about anything. Nobody likes change but when you do something like they did this time, it’s out of hand. Not only should we have been informed of the upcoming change but we should have a way to find out how to navigate our own home page. I prefer Facebook over Twitter or Google+. I liked the fact that I had control (for the most part) of what others see. I also liked that I could choose to see EVERYBODY’S status updates not just who Facebook thinks I want to see. We no longer are able to have control over these things. Yes, this is the day Facebook screwed up!

I was hoping that Facebook would see the complaints for those they switched over a month ago. My husband was one of those who has had this new layout for weeks. Every day he got on and complained. I guess Facebook thinks they need to keep up with the rest, but I believe it’s totally opposite. For me, I love the fact that Facebook is different than Twitter and Google+. I had the options that I don’t on the other social media sites. Not just that Facebook is a more personal place and you can’t even see all of your friends status updates. I don’t think that the business pages are having much feedback which means we can’t see them in our feeds.

I asked some folks what they thought this morning. This is what I got in return.

Robin said,

“I saw that Klout is now linking G+, I wonder if that in combo with the changes will help some people decide to jump ship.”

Julie said,

“It’s FAR too busy. It’s an ADHD nightmare. I’d really just like to read the updates that are relevant by time. There should be an option to go to basic settings.”

Annie said,

“I do not like these new changes either. I can’t find the button to click “not available for chat.” That is a problem because I have relatives that ding me on here constantly, and I’d rather not talk to them. But by far, the biggest failure was making everything ‘top stories’ only and not chronological.”

Erin said,

“I have always preferred most recent. And how is Facebook deciding what is interesting to me? But my main thing is my homepage is SOOO cluttered. There is way too much going on. I want the option to delete some of these streams/blocks of info. Then it wouldn’t be so bad.”

Keep in mind all of these people I mentioned make their living by working online and on Social Media. We are used to the ever changing environment but even we don’t like it. Imagine those who don’t know the environment too well, they are lost. The day Facebook screwed up was a sad day for me.

How do you feel about the changes? Tell me how you feel!

I thought I wouldn’t like it, but I find myself enjoying my interactions with others a little bit more this way. It’s a little more real-time and easier to keep track of (for me). I think they finally got it right. They put a Twitter in my Facebook! That is awesome!

    • Cindy, I love to hear the different thoughts. I am one who usually is okay with changes when Facebook makes them. However, more changes coming on top of all the new ones yesterday. They are doing too much at once. As well as, most reasons people like it, is because it’s different then the fast paced Twitter. This is the first time I’ve seen more complaints than the ones that are fine with it. Thank you for sharing that you think differently. That is why we love you! :)

I’m getting used to it, because I have family on there to keep up with. But I don’t particularly like it. If I wanted Twitter, I’d open up TweetDeck.

The page is far too busy and I really dislike Facebook thinking they know what I do or don’t like. They really have no idea. I prefer the “most recent” to this crap. I hate the chat popping up.

If I didn’t have to use Facebook for work purposes and to keep up with family, I wouldn’t.

    • I see where you are coming from. The first reason I ever got on Facebook is because that’s where my friends and family were. That still is the main reason I’m on there. I like that Facebook WAS different than the rest. I probably won’t leave either because of my family.

It’s not just the obvious changes – I have been experiencing other “glitches” that no one else seems to be talking about. I keep getting messages asking me to approve someone adding me to their work history – I can ignore these but people who don’t work in the industry and don’t understand it’s a glitch are also thinking that I am trying to add them to my work history and getting upset about it. Also had a woman write me a 100 line diatribe on why she did NOT go to my high school so she does NOT appreciate my adding her to the group – which – to my knowledge – I did not do. So yeah, this has been a big pain in ways not even imagined. : (

    • It has been very glitchy. I do completely understand what you are saying. And I also notice some privacy settings changing and do NOT like that. However, they are not done changing things on it yet. So, I am not going to change a thing until they are done changing stuff! Thanks so much for sharing Kate!

  5. Actually if you read up on how the business Facebook Page insight tool works you will start using Facebook for business. I have not had many of my clients/friends do a complete switch to G+. Also you can control privacy settings – check my site for those details.

I think it is frustrating too – but for business the new insights demographics are key!
