Last night, my husband was digging through the storage boxes in the basement trying to find something (another story), and he came across two work-at-home mom books I had long since forgotten.

I purchased these two books before my Kindle and before I had my now three-year-old daughter in anticipation of what everyone described as a “life that would never be the same.” I was frantic, trying to figure out how I was going to maintain my thriving virtual assistant business after I became a mom.

I don’t think I made it through either of these books entirely, but I vividly remember pulling some pretty powerful nuggets of wisdom from each of them. Here are the two books and what I found to be the most value information in each.

Mompreneurs: A Mother’s Practical Step by Step Guide to Work at Home Success

By Patricia Cobe and Ellen H. Parlapiano

Description
This is the must-have how-to primer for any mother who wants to work from home-with advice and helpful hints on balancing “work” time and “mom” time; making the difficult transition from corporate to home office; legal information; time planning and organization; networking effectively; and much more.

My Biggest Takeaway
You CAN have the best of both worlds — be an excellent mom and successful business owner. It just takes some discipline, dedication, and flexibility, and A LOT of planning.

The Busy Mom’s Ultimate Fitness Guide

By Cathy Moxley

Description
If you’ve been spinning your wheels for a long time, you’ll appreciate the core message of this book: how to make this time different from all of the other times you’ve tried to stick with an exercise program. Special features include key fitness facts every busy mom should know to get results, four exercise levels to choose from, easy-to-follow home workout routines, pre- and postnatal guidelines, words of wisdom from moms who are making it work, resources, and a special workbook section to chart your course. You won’t wait another day to begin a lifetime of fitness – on your terms.

My Biggest Takeaway
This lesson has been relearned with the birth of each of my children: health and fitness doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I may not have the time I once had for 2-hour workouts or being able to jog in 5-mile chunks, but that doesn’t mean I can’t recreate a new fitness regimen that works with my current lifestyle.

In fact, I’m going to create a new over-booked-schedule-mom-of-three workout plan right now!
