It’s hard to believe that ten years ago, after a three-day weekend that gave me three job-free days to crank out the work AND while juggling diaper changes, feeding and caring for my then-4-year old and then-1-year-old twins, Type-A Parent was born.
So many mindblowing things have happened since. What started as a multi-author blog and social network turned into a conference. What started as a conference has turned into a community that has completely shaped who I am as a person and that I can’t even imagine being without.
All of my closest friends and all of the people I count on for business advice (and who offer it so freely) are people I met through Type-A. I’m a better person for having known them.
I must admit. The past year hasn’t been the best for me or Type-A. Personal crap was extremely distracting. It’s been these business friends who’ve stood by me, who’ve offered advice, and who have outstretched their hand when I was drowning that has made all the difference (personally and in business).
What? Shut UP! There’s something in my eye, OK?
Type-A started out as mine, but it’s long since been made a million times better by its community. I’m constantly in awe of the people who are at once so smart and yet so supportive, welcoming and helpful. I’m constantly amazed at their stories.
The kaleidoscope of Type-A influencers is striking, bold and beautiful. At Type-A, friendships have been born, and business partnerships have been forged. Domain names have been impulsively purchased that turned into killer blogs and businesses. Magic has happened. That’s all thanks to the people of the community.
In ten years, so much has changed and improved in the industry. I remember at the first Type-A Blogger Town Hall Meeting, bloggers were practically begging brands to pay them in money instead of product. Today, paying a blogger for social sharing and content creation is the norm, not the exception.
There have been tears. There’s been laughter. There’s been moments of epiphany that led to great things. There have been late night chats at hotel lobby bars and in pajamas in rooms.
There have been blogger and brand connections that were born at a booth or a party and continued for years afterwards. We’ve had amazing brands! It’s far too many to mention, but Disney Parks (every year since we started!), ShareASale, Little Debbie, Best Buy, YouTube, Hasbro, Dodge, Johnson & Johnson, Bing, and so many more fantastic companies with representatives who get it.
I’ve been honored to watch it all happen.
Watch for Type-A Parent Pictures
I spent the past couple days going through pictures from every Type-A conference. I’ll be sharing pictures from all of the conferences on the Type-A Parent Facebook page, so be sure to keep an eye on it (you can even change your settings to See First at the top of the page). I’ll also be creating a community album so you can share your own pictures and memories.
