Unique Baby Shower Gifts for the Mom-to-Be of Twins
I like to get unique and creative when I bring a gift to a baby shower. I love the ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ from the guests. Since I can’t knit or quilt or really even sew, a handmade gift is almost never an option. I say almost because I have hope that one day I will be crafty. Here are a number of ideas for baby shower gifts for the twin mom that are unique and will definitely be appreciated.
Fancy Diaper bag filled with goodies
There was a time when new moms were stuck with the quilted Winnie the Pooh bag. Eventually designers and retailers got smart and realized moms still want style even when it comes to carrying around diapers and wipes.
There are so many to choose from these days but I still love my Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack. I have not used it in years but refuse to get rid of it. The backpack is key for the twin mom as it allows both arms free to herd the twins as they move in two different directions!
A beautiful diaper bag is a great gift when filled with all the things a mom needs including:
- Hand sanitizer
- Tissues
- Aquafor (can be used on mom’s hands and lips or on baby)
- Teething toys
- Mylecon drops
- Tylenol
- Biodegradable Diaper Sacks
(for the stinky ones you don’t want to leave in your friend’s trash)
- Disposable camera (for those moms who don’t have a great camera on their phone)
- And of course diapers and
- Wipes holder (I like this one from ChicTots because it’s eco-friendly, cute, and a great price!)
iPod Touch
Fill this with music and videos that mom can enjoy sitting in the car after driving the twins around town to finally get them to sleep! And add in classical music, kids music, lullabies, and even some Baby Einstein videos that she can play for the babies to distract them from a complete meltdown. Of course leave space for photos so mom can carry the iPod Touch instead of a brag book.
Twin onsies
With twins people love to get matching outfits. A different approach is to get clothing that only work with twins. I found some of these fun items while cruising the web:
Thing One and Thing Two
Copy, Paste
Divide, Conquer
Bacon and Eggs
Monkey See, Monkey Do
Twin Inspired Jewelry
Of course many people immediately think of a 2 peas in a pod necklace when they think of jewelry that reflects having twins. But how about a pair of earrings or rings that will remind the mom of twins of her own pair? For the mom who already has kids, a family tag necklace means no one is left our, and if the family continues to expand, mom can keep adding to it.
Gift certificate to a sitter service
As a mom of twins I could not have done it without my circle of support. And because my family is not nearby, I had to pay for most of that support. I was lucky enough to have a neighbor who had twins that were starting school. She gave me the name of her part-time nanny as well as a night nurse/doula that she recommended. Had it not been for her, I’m not sure how I would have found help.
Today there are a number of sites that can help. A great gift might be a gift certificate to Care.com who takes care of the background checks so the twin mom only has to fill out a profile of what kind of help she needs: part-time, evening, or all day. I joined during their free weekend and said I was looking for help this summer just one or two days a week and have received messages from a number of possible sitters that have CPR certification, experience with twins, and experience teaching…all criteria I listed.
A few other sites to check out are SitterCity, GoNannies and ChildCare Aware.
