Valentine’s Day Themed Preschool Activities
Introduce your preschooler to Valentine’s Day with these fun activities.
Valentine’s Day Math Idea for Preschoolers
Introduce preschoolers to the concept of half and whole through the traditional art project of cutting out half-heart shapes from folded paper. Have a drawing of a heart shape and make a line through the exact center of the shape to show them “whole” and “half”. Give each preschooler a folded red, pink or white sheet of paper and let them try to trace a half-heart shape. Help them cut the shape out as needed and then when they unfold the half-heart paper it will be a full heart shape.
Music Idea for Toddlers
This is a cute Valentine’s Day song that is sung to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” making it easy for young children to pick up the song.
Valentine’s Day Science Idea for Preschoolers
This one takes a bit of pre-planning but is a great way to show children about how plants and flowers grow. And of course, flowers are such a popular Valentine’s Day gift this experiment fits the theme nicely. Get a white carnation flower and snip the end of the flower in an “x” at the bottom. Place the flower in a vase of water and let the kids choose a food coloring color to add to the water; blue, red or green. Over the next couple days the coloring will tint the petals of the flower the color of the white flower.

Sugar cookies are easy to make and fun to decorate! For a delicious Valentine’s Day treat, let preschoolers either help with sugar cookie creation, or bring pre-baked but undecorated cookies to the classroom. Frosting, sprinkles, colored sugar and other bakery decorations make each cookie a unique custom-creation that preschool children will love to create almost more than they love to eat!
Valentine’s Day Preschool Activities and Games
A fun active song for preschoolers to learn is “The Farmer in the Dell”. If you’ve never played it with them, they will love the ability to choose the next person to participate! You’ll need a group with several preschoolers or other volunteers in order to play.
