The news is looking grim for those of us 40-Something Moms about to enter Menopause.  Just this past week lung cancer has been associated with hormone replacement therapy, showing a greater risk, especially for smokers.  This now adds to the risk of breast cancer, stroke and heart attack for women who go the route with hormone replacement therapy, known as HRT.

Just the other day I was chatting with a past Pharmacist, who retired years ago from Rite Aid. He mentioned to me that at age 70, his wife still has menopause symtoms!  That got me thinking what is the range of menopause symptoms?  The Beginner’s Guide to Menopause will help you relieve the symptoms of Menopause and get coached for thirty days.  I wonder if after thirty days the symptoms are gone?

Follow Menopause The Blog, if you want to know of the latest studies and articles pertaining to Menopause.  I subscribed a few months ago to the Menopause Minute.  Wed MD has a Menopause Center that gives a good overview of the Symptoms of Menopause:

Not all women experience symptoms with the onset of menopause. If menopausal symptoms occur, they may include hot flashes, night sweats, pain during intercourse, increased anxiety or irritability, and the need to urinate more often.”

Medline Plus covers all the related issues associated with Menopause like Diabetes, sleep and weight gain.  There are even open clinical trials on Menopause that are recruiting.  Other recent news is a bit more encouraging, stating that the memory loss associated with Menopause is only temporary, so once you get through the year of no more periods and officially enter Menopause, your memory will be more intact.  This is great information since memory lapse is also an indication of Alzheimer’s Disease, which runs in my family genes.

The last few months I have been ordering some books to help me battle the weight gain and learn the best foods to eat and how to use weights.  Eat This, Not That is a good visual that even helps my teenager with fun tips.  Lean, Long & Strong is a six-week strength training and fat burning program where I started with reading articles.  I just ordered  Body for Life for Women: A Woman’s Plan for Physical and Mental Transformation.

I have been regularly exercising at the gym for the past three months and notice a difference in my strength and also the low libido is no longer an issue.  I am still in perimenopause and think I might just ride out the storm and take nothing to treat Menopause, since most likely more studies will be published with more issues associated relating to HRT.
