Please help us de-stress breastfeeding and pumping with a novel technology: U Boost!
Ms. (Motherhood/Sisterhood) United, a women-led start-up focusing on developing novel breast pumping technology, has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for U Boost, a hands-free breast pump booster that helps moms make the most of their existing breast pumps and get more of what they really need – more milk! U Boost fits most breast sizes and can be used in conjunction with any standard breast pump to improve lactation and milk output by an average of ~40 percent.
Ms. United is committed to empowering women, and through our Kickstarter, we are offering multiple options to equip women from all walks of life with U Boost. We are collaborating with lactation consultants at select non-profit community health centers to provide free U Boost products to mothers interested in breastfeeding services. We are accepting $40 donations to make this opportunity available and are covering the remaining costs with our own capital because we care deeply about arming every new mother with the best tools available. We are also offering two commercial options for new mothers – U Boost vibrating edition for $69 and U Boost original for $49 and a tester option at a 50% discount for $35.
All breast pumps use suction as the sole stimulant to express milk. Breastfeeding is a complicated biologic process, and it’s hard to replicate the multifactorial stimulation of a baby with a vacuum-based breast pump. U Boost is the first breastfeeding booster that adds compression and vibration – two well-known stimulants – to improve the output of all breast pumps. Breast pumps are also highly variable, and moms respond very differently depending on their unique biology, genetics and situation.
Studies show that ~70% of moms express less milk with pumping than with breastfeeding, so there is a real need for additional technologies to help moms express more milk while away from their babies.
The team at Ms. United truly believes in the power of this technology to help boost mom’s milk supply and better equip mothers to reach their breastfeeding goals. We have been working tirelessly for the past 6 years to make this dream a reality for new moms. We have conducted preference and IRB-approved clinical trials to study the benefits of U Boost. In volunteer studies, 90% volunteer testers (n=28) found U Boost helped improve their pumping experience, and in controlled clinical studies, U Boost improves milk production by ~40% (n=6).
We are a small team with a tight budget, but we are fiercely determined! We worked hard for the past 6 years to bootstrap this company to create a commercial ready product. We firmly believe in retaining autonomy from outside investors so that we have freedom to grow the business and products in a way that aligns with our core mission of empowering women—rather than focusing on short-term profit. We have spent many days writing small business grant applications, and as a result and have been awarded >$500,000, allowing us to retain full control of our destiny. This independence has paid off, and we so excited to collaborate with high needs groups like community health centers and NICU care settings moving forward. However, with this lean model approach, we didn’t have enough time and capital to simultaneously develop our brand awareness and a social media following alongside our prototype development and testing, so we need your expertise now and fast!
Our Kickstarter will succeed only if you help us spread the word. We are at a small business inflection point and need help with this incredibly challenging next phase of communicating to our target market. We are open and willing to discuss all forms of partnerships and payment, including equity.
Pumping is a major challenge that many mothers face and we would like to work with you to educate your community of mothers and let them know that this product exists and could help them in a stressful time of need. We are open to discussing all forms of partnerships. Please contact Susan Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or call 410-227-3192 to get more information and discuss opportunities to work together.
